Nutrition
The purpose of the Elderly Nutrition Program is to reduce hunger and food insecurity, to promote socialization of older individuals, and promote the health and well-being of older individuals. Everyone age 60 or older is welcome to participate.
Congregate Dining and Home Delivered Meals are provided to prevent malnutrition and promote good health behaviors. Many older adults do not get adequate nutrition, which can impact health conditions and overall quality of life and well-being. Our nutrition program offers a varied menu each month, provides a well balanced meal, and ensures that 1/3 of the USDA recommended daily requirements are contained in each meal served. Hot noon meals are available at 10 nutrition sites throughout the region (Kewaunee and Manitowoc Counties) on varying days. Meals can also be delivered to qualifying home-bound residents.
The Nutrition Program is funded with Older Americans Act (OAA) funds, State and County funds, private contributions and participant donations. Participant donations are requested toward the cost of the meal provided. All are encouraged to contribute an amount they can afford.
Nutrition Education and Nutrition Counseling are also provided to consumers who participate in the Nutrition Program.
