Parents and caregivers should ensure that the proper type of car seat is utilized and installed. All car seats have an expiration date it varies on the manufacturer, most are 6 -10 years. Parents and caregivers should know the history of the car seat, watch for recalls, make sure the buckles and harnesses are placed in the correct positions for the child and that objects such as puffy coats, toys, and accessories that a not approved by the manufacturer do not obstruct proper fit.
