The Licensing Process

INQUIRY: Contact the Out of Home Care Team stating your interest in becoming a foster parent

APPLICATION & BACKGROUND CHECKS: After you have made the decision to apply to be a foster parent, you can request an application by talking to a team member or emailing us. The packet includes the application, release of information, and background checks.

HOME STUDY PROCESS: Once your application is returned, the Foster Care Coordinator will reach out to begin the next steps. This process is designed to help us get to know you and your family, while also giving you the opportunity to learn more about our agency and the children in need of placement. The process includes, but is not limited to: questionnaires, interviews, background checks, physical health exams, home safety inspection, and completing requirements in Wisconsin Administrative Code Chapter DCF 56.

TRAINING:

  • Preplacement Training (6 hours) prior to a placement
  • Nurturing Connections Training
  • Ongoing Training
