Electronics Collection

Computers, electronics, batteries, and light bulbs are accepted at the Manitowoc County Recycling Center Main Office. There is a fee to recycle most electronics. Recycling electronics is important because they can contain materials that are a health hazard. They can also contain many recyclable materials. Certain electronics have been banned from landfill disposal in Wisconsin since 2010, including televisions and computers.

Guidelines

  • Bring unwanted electronics to the Recycling Center Main Office during the listed hours
  • Do not break the items being brought in for recycling.  This includes purposefully dismantled or scrapped items
  • Recycling staff reserve the right to refuse any item that may present a health risk
  • Recycling center staff may access higher fees for any broken or scrapped item that will result in a higher cost to manage
  • Businesses and customers with large loads of electronics should call ahead and schedule a time
  • Freon containing items are not accepted.  This includes refrigerators, air conditioners, and dehumidifiers.
  • Oil and gas containing items are not accepted.  This includes certain heaters and combustion engines.
  • Large “white goods” are not accepted.  This includes washers, driers, and furnaces. Microwaves are accepted.
  • All screens are measured diagonally across the exposed viewing surface
  • Large amounts of fluorescent bulbs should be packaged in the box they came in or a similar box. Otherwise tape into manageable bundles using a quick release tape like masking or painter’s tape. Do NOT use duct tape.

  • Some items have variable pricing. We do not list a set rate because the processing costs can change quickly. Customers can call and get the current rate for these items but they are subject to change.
  • Manitowoc County may modify guidelines/rates at any time to meet the needs of the program.

Fees

  • Televisions and Monitors
    • Flat Panels with a screen less than 27 inches –  $10.00 each
    • Flat Panels with a screen 27 inches or more – $20.00 each
    • CRTs with a screen 24 inches or less – $15.00 each
    • CRTs and projections televisions with a screen greater than 24 inches and less than or equal to 36 inches – $25.00 each
    • CRTs and projections televisions with a screen greater than 36 inches – $35.00 each
  • Computers
    • Laptops and tablets – $0.25 per pound
    • Computer processors – $10.00 each
    • Computer Monitors – See television and monitors pricing
    • Computer processor/monitor units – See television and monitors pricing
    • Printers, scanners and other computer peripherals – $0.25 per pound
    • Inkjet and LaserJet cartridges – price varies
  • Phones
    • Cell phones and mobile phones – free
    • Home, office phones – $0.25 per pound
    • Answering machines – $0.25 per pound
    • Fax machines – $0.25 per pound
  • Other Electronics
    • Audio/video equipment (VCRs, DVD players, media) – $0.25 per pound
    • Cameras – $0.25 per pound
    • Household appliances (toasters, coffee makers, etc) – $0.25 per pound
    • Microwaves – $10.00 each
  • Lighting
    • 4 foot fluorescent bulbs – $0.45 each
    • 8 foot fluorescent bulbs – $0.55 each
    • Compact fluorescent bulbs – $0.45 each
    • Incandescent, flood and spot lights – $0.35 each
    • High intensity discharge lights including sodium, metal halide and mercury vapor lights – $1.40 each
    • Fluorescent light fixtures (without bulbs) – $9.00 each
    • LED bulbs – $2.80 each
    • Neon and UV lighting (based on market pricing) – price varies
    • String lights/holiday lights (no lighted holiday decorations) – free
    • Ballasts non-PCB – $0.55 per pound
    • Ballasts PCB or unmarked, including mixed/unsorted batches – $1.00 per pound
